Please enjoy the photos of last weekend’s 3^rd Annual Brooks Rehabilitation Southern Slam Quad Rugby Tournament.

Twelve teams from as far  away as Utah and Maine came together for competition and camaraderie. Join me in congratulating the Brooks Bandits in their 3^rd Place win! Additionally, Bandits co-captain Don Bergman was voted to the All –Star Team and Bandit Chris Hull was voted Most Valuable Player. This success follows the Bandits’ first win at an away tournament in December; at that competition, Bandit JB Seiner was  voted to the All- Star Team! GO BANDITS!

Saturday started with the National Anthem performed by Special Guest, the Big Orange Chorus, the 2009 Barbershop Chorus National Champions!  Additionally, we were fortunate enough again this year to have Airgas  generously donate materials , equipment ,time and skill  for on-site welding of rugby chairs.  Over 30 chairs and in excess of 100 welds were performed allowing the athletes to play on!  Another special feature of this year’s tournament was the filming of all games by Select Media.   DVDs of individual games are available to players, coaches and family members.   A big thank you to all of the other individuals and organizations who sponsored  and supported this event including MPF3,Inc., Invacare, Restorative Therapies Inc., Fletcher Medical, East Arlington Rotary Club, Handicapped Driver Services, Advocate Medical, Holiday Inn Express, Marriott , Firehouse Subs , Mojos Barbeque, T-Shirt Bordello and Atlantic Engraving .  

The Brooks Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program Staff and Athletes extend the greatest thank you to the numerous family members and volunteers who donated their time and energy to make the 3rd Annual Southern Slam a success and a memorable experience for all.  We could not do it without your service and support.

 This year marked our largest spectator crowd!  Thank you for the support and interest in our Program and our Athletes.  The Bandits practice every Saturday at the Brooks YMCA from 2:30 -6. Come join us as a volunteer, spectator or athlete!
